New digital footfall tool launched

New digital footfall tool launched to prevent
congestion in retail centres
MeltSpot

"Grosvenor Europe and MeltSpot have developed a digital tool to track the behaviour of visitors in shopping centres to identify areas of congestion, enabling centre managers to maintain health and safety.

MeltSpot Crowd Analytics tracks how many visitors are in the centre, and where people congregate, in real time. It is therefore possible to act immediately and disperse congestion or queues, and ensure social distancing is adhered to.

The system can also be used for other purposes where visitor flows and movement patterns can be analysed, including customer frequency, visit habits and changes to walkways. By understanding how people move about the centre, we not only have the opportunity to act quickly to ensure the health and safety of visitors, but we can use the analysis to develop the services on offer in Skärholmen Centrum."

MeltSpot and the EU GDPR

MeltSpot and the EU GDPR
Security

This year on May 25 the new privacy and security initiative "General Data Protection Regulation" will take effect, and as can be seen lately by e.g. the Cambridge Analytica scandal, this is very much a welcome sight in the rapidly growing information age.

Our legal partner Lindahl writes in a comment to the new directive: The main reasons for the introduction of the new law are to strengthen personal integrity, to ensure uniform EU legislation and to adapt legislation to technical progress.

We at MeltSpot are in the technical frontier and we have already had the core concerns of the GDPR at heart since our inception. Security and integrity are our highest priority, and we believe that it is important to get a framework rolling that sets clear standards across member states and hopefully starts an open dialogue on how we as a society want to balance convenience, big data and the privacy of the individual.

That is why we have made sure to have local expertise available and we continually educate ourselves on the local adaptations of the law and other international standards.
